SYNOPSIS:
In this hilarious and compelling story we journey through the lives of 7 black men who don't necessarily experience black boy joy but have a strong commitment to get there. EVENT DETAILS
Written and directed by Harold JAY Trotter, BLACK BOYS CRY is a comedy-forward, deeply moving stage play that explores brotherhood, vulnerability, and the unspoken truths of Black manhood. Set against humor, honesty, and heart, the production follows a group of Black men navigating love, friendship, grief, and healing all while proving that laughter and pain often live side by side. Hailed as “powerful, hilarious, and healing” by audiences nationwide, BLACK BOYS CRY made its debut during the inaugural Houston Black Theatre Week and went on to win BroadwayWorld’s 2024 Best Play, Best Actor (Robert Richard), and Best Director (Harold JAY Trotter). The production has captivated audiences across the country, with performances in Chicago, Las Vegas, San Diego, New Orleans, Atlanta, and beyond. Blending comedy with emotional depth, BLACK BOYS CRY is a bold, honest, and unapologetically Black theatrical experience that invites audiences to laugh, reflect, and leave feeling seen.
